Frequently Asked Questions
We’ve gathered some of the most frequently asked questions related to Mindcare, MindCheck, and mental health consultation services.
MindCheck is a fully secure tool developed in Finland by experienced psychotherapists, psychologists, and researchers to assess mental well-being.
MindCheck is designed to evaluate an individual’s unique situation when concerns arise regarding their mental well-being. When integrated into the therapy process, it can save up to 3-5 sessions, allowing in-person meetings to focus directly on essential issues and build a strong therapeutic alliance. Completing MindCheck itself can enhance self-understanding, which often initiates positive change and increases the overall effectiveness of the service.
How does MindCheck work?
- Book your initial mental health session through this page.
- Your therapist will send you an invitation to the MindCheck service via email.
- Follow the instructions in the email to log in to MindCheck and complete the online chat-based questionnaire. Through an automated dialogue, you’ll gain a structured view of your current mental well-being both at work and at home. How am I really doing? Are there any worrying symptoms? What are my stressors and strengths? What helpful or unhelpful patterns do I tend to rely on in challenging situations?
- Once you’ve answered the MindCheck questions, your responses are compiled into a report, which you can refer to in the future. Your therapist will also receive a summary of your responses.
- Because MindCheck allows your therapist to get a preliminary understanding of your situation, you can begin your initial mental health session by discussing topics that matter most to you.
Complete the MindCheck well in advance of your appointment (at least 2 days prior) to allow your therapist time to review your responses before your session.
Benefits of MindCheck:
- Saves Time – Up to 3–5 sessions and strengthens the therapeutic alliance: Your MindCheck responses give your psychologist an understanding of you even before the first session. This way, you can focus on key issues right from the start and gain more from the five-session mental health support program.
- Enhances Focus, Opens Understanding, and Initiates Change: By completing MindCheck, you gain a structured picture of your mental well-being, stressors, resources, and both helpful and unhelpful coping patterns.
- Increases Therapy Effectiveness: Using the MindCheck tool to organize your situation initiates change work on its own, enhancing the overall effectiveness of the service.
MindCheck is a Finnish tool developed by experienced psychotherapists, psychologists, and researchers, designed with full data security. The responses you provide in MindCheck are visible only to you and your psychologist.
Mindcare goes beyond general counseling, drawing on cognitive-analytic methods and structured case formulation with a short-term therapeutic approach.
In sessions, you’ll work with your psychologist using the Mäppi® tool—a visual method to structure the challenges you face in daily life, as well as your patterns of action and reaction.
Mäppi is a tool that helps you understand your own behavior patterns that sustain everyday challenges. As self-awareness grows, it becomes easier to find solutions aligned with your values for navigating difficult situations. This understanding supports sustainable change in behavior.
Together with your psychologist, you’ll create a Mäppi. After the coaching, Mäppi serves as a reminder of alternative strategies, making it easier to face new challenges.
Mindcare session provides accessible, low-threshold consultation for various life situations. During the sessions, we focus specifically on your mind and explore practical ways to strengthen it with an experienced professional.
In the first session, we’ll get to know each other and review your initial assessment responses together. We’ll agree on ways to work together and discuss your expectations. Together, we’ll set goals for our sessions, and you’ll receive a light self-reflection task.
In follow-up sessions, we discuss and refine your goals, working together with a focus on achieving them. You may receive light tasks if needed.
What does your ideal outcome look like? What would change? How would it impact your actions, relationships, and self-view? We’ll explore how to integrate new insights and skills into your daily life, reflecting on the past and looking forward. What will you take from these sessions into your daily life, and what new patterns can support you?
Mindcare conversations are designed to support your daily life and well-being. We all bring the same mind to both work and home, so you can discuss whatever topics feel most important to you.
Common themes in mental health support sessions include:
- Finding enthusiasm and motivation
- Balancing work and leisure time
- Anxiety, worries, and lack of direction during times of change
- Managing stress and preventing burnout
- Balancing expectations and resilience
- Learning to recover and recharge
- Clarifying your role and place within your work community
- Letting go of perfectionism
- Coping with crises
- Navigating relationship challenges
- Addressing sleep issues
- Understanding and finding solutions for work-related stressors
In Mindcare sessions, you can confidentially discuss leadership and related emotions with a psychologist. Our specialists are experienced in working with managers and leaders on these themes.
As a supervisor, certain role-specific topics often come up, such as:
- Strengthening the resilience of both the team and yourself in challenging situations
- Enhancing leadership skills, team management abilities, and supporting team performance
- Topics related to motivating the team and promoting their well-being
- Personal development as a leader
In these sessions, you can freely share your thoughts or discuss feelings and reflections that might be difficult to address at work. Heltti’s psychologists are here to support you.
Follow-up sessions can be arranged after the initial 3 mental health sessions with your psychologist. These sessions are short-term therapy and will be recorded in the Kanta system.
Short-term therapy is recommended if you feel that three sessions are not enough to address your situation. Short-term therapy typically focuses on a specific life challenge, problem, crisis, or a milder mental health issue. It is goal-oriented and effective – even 5-7 sessions often bring results.
Sessions can be conducted either remotely or in-person.eltti’s psychologists are here to support you.
Mental health support is a VAT-inclusive service, meaning it is not a healthcare service and does not involve Kanta records.
On the other hand, short-term therapy is a VAT-exempt healthcare service. This means the professional will make Kanta records for the sessions. If desired, these records can be hidden from the Omakanta service.
Both services are confidential and can be easily conducted remotely without a referral.
